Does spray paint damage plastic?

Some spray paints have solvents (like toluene) in them that will melt plastic. There are spray paints, however, that are formulated for plastic materials. Most paint supply and hardware stores sell them.Does spray paint damage plastic?
Read the label it might, spray a bit on a q-tip, wipe a bit where it won't show, watch for bubbling, melting, or slipping where the paint won't grab. Test a larger unseen area, and wait until dry looking for damage. When all seems compatible, spray many light even coats instead of one or two heavier, as plastic will cause paint to run or fail to bond unless dusted on and dried completely before next dusting.Does spray paint damage plastic?
