Glossy spray paint?

How do they make the paint on cars look so glossy?

Is it a type of spray paint?

If you know how it is done, or where to find the paint, please let me know.

Thanks.Glossy spray paint?
first you have the base coat ,and then for the shine its finished with clear lacquer .but solvent based car finishes are now banned and are replaced with a water based paint system .only a job for the professionals i am afraidGlossy spray paint?
Most cars today are painted with a basecoat/clearcoat paint. Basically the paint is applied and then a clearcoat is applied over the paint. The paint dries flat and then the clearcoat creates the shine. Are you talking about spray cans? Automotive paints are meant to be applied with a spray gun. It is very difficult if not impossible to get the same effects with a spray can.

All good clearcoats require an activator/hardener to be mixed in before applying. This activator causes the paint to harden up in a few hours. Spray can paints don't have any activator in them because if they did then the paint or clear would harden up in the can. You can also use enamel paints that don't require a clearcoat but they still need a hardner added. Enamel paints are just an older technology.

A lot of the gloss comes from using premium or ';high-solids'; clearcoats. Technique also affects gloss. A painter with a lot of experience will be able to get a better gloss then a novice would. It really becomes an art. You have to be able to control temperature, air pressure, moisture, mixing ratios, and dirt as well as other variables in order to get the perfect finish.

Most paint jobs must be wet sanded and buffed afterward to create the perfect slick finish.
It's called clear coat, a two part epoxy paint with plastic characteristics. The color is called base coat and goes on dull, then after the about 40 minutes (read directions) the clear coat is applied in several light coats. It sounds harder to do than one-stage (clear mixed with color), but its not. Just read the directions before starting and get the correct flash times (drying times between coats). Rent a paint booth and get a GOOD respirator.
Most auto paints are a high quality polymer that comes out of a can and is applied by spray methods. Some require an ';activator'; or hardener to accelerate fast setting and provide a harder finish. Often, when painting metallic paints, there is a clear overcoat.

Get it at auto stores or body repair shops, especially those that specialize in large lines of paints.
